See what we’re up to with our new home!!!
I don’t know about you, but I am a huge fan of Domaine home. Every feature is beautiful and I often find myself going back to their images over and over again to really take it all in. One evening (very, very late evening) I was perusing their site only to find that they featured my living room remodel! I’m so honored to be featured on their gorgeous site.
I’m in the process of updating my website and while rummaging through old pictures, I realized that I never posted before and after pics! It was quite the process to prioritize our budget and fit all of my “wants” in there. Although the kitchen was a lot of of brown, I could see that it had a great layout and just needed cosmetic updates. Here is the before/after reveal!
I promised I would share the process of re-doing our home, and I never make a promise I can’t keep. As I have mentioned before, our home was a whole lotta brown and beige everywhere and I essentially started ripping things out the day after we moved in. Starting with the mantel. We demo-ed the facade and then I worked with my carpenter to turn my napkin sketch into the real thing. We got creative trying to salvage as much as possible, but still achieve the look I was going for.
February is here! Although I might not be big on teddy bears and the color red, I certainly like decorating for Valentine’s Day. This year, I wanted to shake things up a bit and put a big, hot pink heart over my fireplace. Armed with my weekly Michael’s 40% off coupon, I bought a canvas and some Martha Stewart “Pink Dahlia” acrylic craft paint. I was feeling particularly lazy at the time, so I just free-handed the heart. It’s a little imperfect, but so is love sometimes, right?! Really easy and really cute. My kind of DIY. I grabbed a few pink roses at Trader Joe’s and gathered items I had around the house. I found this free ampersandprintable and printed it at home. I love how it turned out.
Over the next week or so, I am going to be sharing bits and pieces of our home. We bought it 2 years ago and it was a typical brown/beige Orange County tract home. Not exactly what I had in mind for our “dream home”, but it had an awesome lot, great natural light and the perfect floor plan for our future family. We bought a short sale which gave me room in our budget to really transform things. Although the nursery isn’t where we started the renovation, it’s my favorite room in the house. I already had the wallpaper picked out long before I knew we were having a girl. After that ultrasound, I ordered the paper immediately! I wanted this room to feel clean, bright and pretty. When Wren was a newborn, I would just sit in that glider and take it all in. Sappy? Maybe. But this room is pretty special to me.
I sure wish I had a before picture of this little powder room. It wasn’t ugly, but it sure was boring. When we moved into our home, I knew immediately that I wanted to paint it a dark color. With a fresh coat of “Chelsea Gray” by Benjamin Moore and that fabulous venetian mirror I found on eBay, it had the perfect amount of drama for a powder room. We also swapped out the sink for this one from Home Depot, faucet from Restoration Hardware, monogram towels from Pottery Barn, my favorite wild rose soap fromAnthropologie, and a brass wastebasket I found at a local consignment shop.
