The McGee Home Entryway Photo Tour

Virtually tour our cozy, textured entryway!

19 March 2020 -

Today we are continuing our photo tours of the McGee Home reveal with the entryway!

If you know our work, you know that entryways are one of our favorite elements of the home. We always look forward to creating spaces that set the tone for visitors and introduce the style of the rest of the interior. In the McGee entryway, this is no exception.

Scroll through to see the photo tour and read all of the details of this space!

The Walls

When I first started designing this space, there was one thing that I knew had to happen. I wanted to carry the painted white brick from the exterior of our house into our entryway, so it felt like a continuation. I just knew it was going to bring added texture to this small space.

The Arch Paneling

I wanted the entryway to feel cozy and intimate, not large. So you walk through this barrel arch and be greeted by these vaulted ceilings in our living room. When designing the exterior of the home, we had a lot of strong, clean lines, and it was just feeling a little too boxy when we had a rectangular door. Once I saw the arched door, it seemed to soften everything perfectly.

I always knew I wanted to have this barrel detail going into the living room, and it brought a really cool effect to have this double arch here in the entry.

The Pieces

From the time I laid eyes on this schoolhouse light, I knew it was the perfect one of our entryway. I just loved that it had this vintage look, I love the dark color.

No McGee entryway is complete without a vintage rug, and this one completes the space perfectly. It added some texture, some interest, and color. I love vintage rugs in entryways because of their aged ability to hide dirt and handle tracking in and out of the house.

I found this beautiful vintage console and have been keeping it in our warehouse for a very long time just for this moment; it was perfect for this space. Then, we added a simple, oversized round mirror, and I love how it bounces light in this space.

Every single entry moment that I have pinned incorporates really large greenery, so I wanted to pick things that supported the greenery. Playing with scale here, I did the most massive table lamp you’ve ever seen, and I love its great ceramic detail.

The Accessories

I layered the console with things I’ve collected, some conversation-starting books, objects, and of course, a candle. I love a candle in an entryway, so it smells good when you first walk into your home.
