How to Style Your Primary Bedroom Nightstand

Our step-by-step guide to a fool-proof nightstand look

07 July 2020 -

At the beginning of quarantine and social distancing, HouseBeautiful asked us and a few other designers to share how we style our nightstands at home!

We’ve talked about nightstand styling on this blog more times than we can count, but there are too many ways to do it not to revisit it time and time again!

Today, we’re sharing our recent feature where Shea shows us how she styled her nightstand in The McGee Home Master Bedroom!

Here’s her step-by-step guide to a fool-proof nightstand look.

Styling Shea's Master Bedroom Nightstand

Step One: Start with a lamp

When styling a nightstand, I always start with a lamp. Placing it in the center gives it scale and height, and makes it easy to fill in the space around it! We want it to feel simple but also layered and cozy; it’s a delicate balance.

Step Two: Add a vase

After I’ve placed the lamp, I like to style a vase next to it for fresh flowers to add some color and life. Make sure you pick one that looks good without florals as well for simplicity!

Step Three:

I love a candle in a master bedroom because it sets the mood and it smells good! I love using a pretty designer one to elevate the look and add some extra dimension.

Step Four:

You’ll always find a little tray or box on my nightstand! I like to have a place that I can store my earrings and rings off at the end of the day since I always forget to take them off!

Step Five:

Once I set everything up, I realized that everything was kind of the same height, so I wanted to add some varying levels and layers. Styling a little journal to prop up the flowers was the perfect finishing touch!

Once the look is complete, I still have room in the back to charge my phone or put other little necessities!
