Tour Two Elevated Kids’s We Can’t Stop Thinking About

Two creative kids spaces and a case for designing them

Happy Friday!

In celebration of the upcoming weekend, we are doing one of our favorite kinds of home tours today: kid’s spaces!

Out of all the rooms in the home, kids’ rooms seem to have the most tendency to become an afterthought, and we get it! It can be tough to design kids’ spaces that are an expression of their personality and flow with the rest of your home at the same time.

At the same time, kids’ rooms are an excuse to get out of the design comfort zone and experiment with fun color-ways and decor. Sometimes we secretly wish we could trade bedrooms when we do a kids’ space.

Our clients from our latest project have a very modern minimal taste; they love everything clean, monochromatic, and streamlined. When it came to the kids’ rooms, though, we wanted to branch out from the black and white motif throughout the home and bring in a little more color.

In the boy’s room, we started with the finishes, and we love how the detail on the ceiling turned out. We did a beautiful stain and wide, beams that stretch across the room.

Bringing in the curved edges from other parts of the house, we did a rounded headboard, shapely sconces, and matching machine-age style nightstands on either side.

We added this minimal, basketball court sketch in a frame above the bed to bring in some personality, and finished it off with a vintage-inspired lumbar for easy bed-making and extra charm. The result was a look that feels like the perfect balance between both soft and modern.

In the girl’s room, we incorporated a little bit more texture and color with a woven bed, rosy pinks and blues, and a pair of hanging rattan chairs that tie everything together.
