New Takes on Vintage Classics

Vintage is important. If you’re a loyal reader you know we try to include something vintage in every space we design! From pillows to rugs, and trinkets and decorative pieces. We love to see how vintage style influences design in today’s world. Today we talk about our new takes on vintage classics!

BURL

We are excited for a new, invigorated take on burl. Born from imperfections, it creates a marbled effect in the wood that is completely unique. It’s warm and glamorous — especially when it’s lacquered. We just added this chic burl box to the shop and couldn’t love it more!

Curved Sofas

Reminiscent of old Hollywood style, our version of a contemporary take on a classic design. It has a simple build, but is ornate in its profile. Curved sofas soften angles in space, and have an intimate feeling as they encourage everyone to face each other.

Pierre Jeanneret Chairs

Pierre Jeanneret Chairs are a classic piece of decor that have made a huge comeback in design. You can find original vintages here. Pierre Jeanneret was a Swiss architect who designed the chair in the 1950’s, the build is simple but structured with V-shaped legs. They’re available in a variety of designs and styles with various finishes, but the most ubiquitous version is the natural wood teak build and light cane webbing. We sell a vintage-inspired version on McGee & Co.

Louis Philippe Mirror

Louis Philippe Mirror has a graceful, elegant silhouette that is ornate, but simple. Reminiscent of the classic, we love the curved top detail and delicate beading of our version. Made popular in the 1800’s, the name comes from King of France Louis Philippe. Lean or hang on a mantle for a softer profile and a slight french-inspired feel.

Our Carrington Mirror is a casual approach to the classic trend. The best part is the raw wood that’s ready to accept any stain or paint treatment for a custom look. It’s totally customizable!

Mushroom lamps

I don’t know when they started, but they reach a high point in mid-century style. Typically, we use articulating task lamps on desks, but we love seeing the return of such a fun silhouette in new ways with this Melange Lamp. It is sleek, modern, and elegant. Its thick base is substantial. Makes a desk, console, or side table feel luxurious and modern with a slight nod to history at the same time.
