Shea's Skincare Routine

We’ve gotten so many requests for my skincare routine! You guys, my routine is extensive to say the least. Ha! Keep in mind, everyone has different skin so this may not work for all.

This might be TMI, but here goes... I found out I had Hypothyroid and PCOS when I was 16. This has led to many tears shed over navigating my health. I've struggled with hormonal acne for years, so I always feel like a fraud when people ask me about my skincare routine. That being said, I find that people who have struggled with their skin tend to be the most diligent and well informed because we've tried everything! 

For me, it starts with food: My skin is best when I'm off all grains, dairy, refined sugars, and soy. It's intense, but makes a huge difference in not only my skin but how I feel! 

I go to my esthetician  (I love her so much) every few weeks for extractions and a chemical peel! She has really helped me develop my routine. The peels make such a difference in the texture of my skin.

MORNING ROUTINE:

  • Cleanser (I started using this recently and my skin has never felt so smooth after washing)

  • Ice Roller. This wakes you up in the morning and is the important part of my routine! I ice my face every morning and every night after cleansing and then I apply all of my products. I take an ice cube and rub it all over my face and hold it on any blemishes to reduce inflammation. It shrinks pores, exfoliates, helps you achieve a healthy glow and helps your products absorb into your skin better. Plus, it’s free! You can read about the benefits here.

  • Serum. Hydrates and smooths fine lines.

  • Vitamin C. The vitamin C booster every blogger and beauty editor raves about. I do too.

  • Sunscreen/Moisturizer. This sunscreen might be my favorite product of them all. It goes on smooth instead of chalky like many and it moisturizes without breaking me out.

NIGHTTIME ROUTINE:

  • I wash my face twice at night because I'm fanatical and want to make sure I get all the makeup off! First round I use a washcloth and the second I lather and rinse really well.

  • Repeat ice, serum, and vitamin C.

  • Retinol/Benzoyl Peroxide - This stuff is magic. It doesn’t dry me out and works really

  • Transformation Cream - Makes my skin glow! Not greasy, but moisturizes without breaking me out.

  • Eye Cream - Because smiling a lot gives me crow’s feet and I don’t plan to stop smiling.

  • Lip Mask (but most of the time I prefer good ol' Carmex)
