Your kids deserve a space that’s as thought out as the rest of the home! Today we’re sharing our tips and tricks for designing a space that feels playful and personal to them, but timeless enough to last through the years.
OUR GUIDE TO KIDS’ SPACES
Invest in finishes that can grow with them
You don’t want to remodel every two years.
Choose paint colors that aren’t too bold. You can be more creative with interchangeable pieces like pillows, art, decor, etc. In our Calabasas Remodel we designed a space for their kids that would serve as a play room while the kids are young, but it will likely become a hang out spot for homework and friends as they grow. To make the space feel more mature, our clients can easily switch out the pillows, artwork, and the rug. Instead of a chalkboard wall, we had a custom one made that can be moved if needed. Poufs are a fun way to add extra seating that’s comfortable.
COOL TOYS EXIST
Choose toys that can double as decor!
Then you can put them on display, without having to worry about storage. Another bonus is that they’re kid-safe too!
STORAGE IS EASY
Baskets, baskets, baskets!
Create enough storage for the space! Be thoughtful with decor by incorporating baskets for toys, canisters for supplies, etc.
CHOOSE THE RIGHT ARTWORK
Make the space exciting!
We love to incorporate artwork that encourages learning and stays relevant. If you’d use it in your office, then it’s sure to grow with your child from toddler to teen. Maps, charts, and flags have a fun spirit that’s still mature. Photographs of scenery and animals bring the space to life.
This corner exemplifies all of our tips! From the moon map on the wall, to the baskets on the ground and console, we made the most of our space.
