I've been avoiding this post for awhile because it means so much to me. However, it's high time I tell the story behind our decision to sell our home and move to Utah.
For the first couple years of our marriage, Syd worked 14-18 hour days to built a start-up digital marketing firm. After it was acquired (yay!), we knew it would soon be time to move on. Well, that came sooner than expected.
While Syd was re-grouping, I figured I would do what I could (with a two-month-old baby) to help tie us over with my blossoming little design business - I launched a website and got an Instagram account.
And everything changed.
My business grew exponentially. I had people from throughout Southern California, and even across the country, asking me to design their homes. I had no idea how to handle the workload, but never considered working with my husband to be an option.
And then one day it clicked. Syd was searching for a new start-up to dive into and there was the perfect candidate right in front of him. I remember crying and asking, "Are you sure we can do this?" As it turns out, the answer was, "Yes!"
With a big leap of faith, we decided to sell our home and launch a full-service design studio and online store based in Salt Lake City (close to my parents, more home building in the area, less of a financial risk).
So here we are just making dreams happen with Studio McGee. Our tagline, "Make Life Beautiful" has been our mantra as we struggled to make lemonade from a lemon of a year.
Thanks for your sweet emails, comments and double-taps. It has kept us inspired and grateful through an extremely demanding time. xo
